Info | The leadoff track from Fred Neil's Capitol debut album was, for a lot of listeners, their introduction to this great artist. And what an introduction it was. "Dolphins" combines a lot of Neil's influences and distills them into a single song. Led by a lazy, almost country rhythm chord progression, the melody has just a suggestion of jazz as well as a vague Broadway-inspired sparkle. Despite all of these elements, it burns with a low-key sensuality. Lyrically, Neil uses the freedom of the dolphins' lives to mirror his own search for peace (and peace of mind) in the modern-day world. Also, Fred Neil has been a life-long activist for the prevention of cruelty to dolphins, and has donated his writers royalties to this cause. Covered very nicely by number-one Neil fan, the late Tim Buckley, who was also at Neil's recording session in late 1966. (by Matthew Greenwald, allmusic.com) |

Sometimes I think about
Saturday's child
And all about the times
when we were running wild
I've been out searching for the dolphins in the sea
Ah, but sometimes I wonder,
do you ever think of me
This old world will never change
the way it's been
And all the ways of war
won't change it back again
I've been out searchin' for the dolphin in the sea
Ah, but sometimes I wonder,
do you ever think of me
Lord, I'm not the one to tell
this old world how to get along
I only know that peace will come
after all the hate is gone
I've been out searchin' for the dolphin in the sea
Ah, but sometimes I wonder,
do you ever think of me
Saturday's child
And all about the times
when we were running wild
I've been out searching for the dolphins in the sea
Ah, but sometimes I wonder,
do you ever think of me
This old world will never change
the way it's been
And all the ways of war
won't change it back again
I've been out searchin' for the dolphin in the sea
Ah, but sometimes I wonder,
do you ever think of me
Lord, I'm not the one to tell
this old world how to get along
I only know that peace will come
after all the hate is gone
I've been out searchin' for the dolphin in the sea
Ah, but sometimes I wonder,
